Health and Social Welfare

Human rights have not been a priority and primary consideration in government policy-making. Ensuring the right to life is at the main issue of ‘Human Development’. This includes dimensions of health and social welfare and prioritizes aspects of social development of human life. Human development recognizes that ‘being healthy’ is a condition that is difficult to access equally by all individuals.

In Indonesia itself, Indonesia’s Human Development Index (HDI) ranking in 2023-2024 grew by 0.713 or increased by 0.008 points from Indonesia’s HDI in the previous year. Indonesia’s HDI has indeed continued to increase and is already in the high category. However, it turns out that Indonesia is the lowest compared to the ASEAN 5 countries. This means that the quality of Indonesia’s human resources does need to be continuously improved.

Although Indonesia is included in the high human development category, the increase in the HDI does not clearly indicate the problem of inequality because the HDI is only a benchmark for basic human development achievements in a country. To look deeper into gender inclusion, we refer to the Gender Inequality Index (GII) where there are 3 (three) dimensions that are analyzed more deeply, namely: reproductive health, empowerment, and economic activities.
