Founder and Board Chairman

Andar Nubowo is the Founder of IndoStrategi. A doctoral graduate of the École normale supérieure de Lyon, he successfully completed research entitled Wasatiyyat Islam, politics, education, and democracy in Indonesia, Southeast Asia and the Muslim world. Since 2003, Andar has produced dozens of academic and non-academic publications from his research on the influence of Islamic politics in Indonesia and its contribution to the development of civil society and democracy. One of his best achievements that influences the development of civil society in the context of relations between Indonesia and Singapore is “The Three Streams Facing Indonesian Muslims: Pulls of Politics” published by RSIS in 2021.
In 2024, he just received the Bourse Post Doctorale d’Islamologie Award, Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, France—IRASEC Bangkok Thailand; Bourse d’Excellence théologique, Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, France in 2019-2022. As an ASEAN Youth Fellowship, he also achieved the Top 20 CEO/Young Societal Leaders under 40s award from the Management University of Singapore—Temasek Foundation in 2017.

Putut Widjanarko currently works as a lecturer, head professor of Paramadina Graduate School of Communication, Paramadina University Jakarta. He received his doctoral degree in 2007 with a dissertation entitled: “Homeland, Identity, and Media: A Study of Indonesian Transnational Muslims in New York City” in the Mass Communications Department, School of Media Arts and Studies, Scripp College of Communication, Ohio University (2007).
With his analytical skills looking at Indonesian and global conditions, Putut was able to translate his research into writing that was able to contribute to policy recommendations. He wrote dozens of books, such as the book chapter: “From General Indonesian Values to Our Indonesia: Interpreting Cak Nur’s thoughts on the Nation”, in Fachrurozi (ed), Contextualization of Cak Nur’s Thinking Amidst Indonesia’s Current Transformation, p 28 – 53, Proxy Media and Paramadina University; Journal Article: “Media Convergence-Deconvergence-Coexistence Triad in Indonesia: The Case of Liputan6.com”, ASPIKOM Journal, 7 (2), 29 – 45, 2022. As corresponding author. Together with L Hariyani; etc.

Amiruddin Al Rahab was commissioner of The National Commission of Human Right for the period of 2017 – 2022. He is the Deputy Chair of the ELSAM Association and Founder of the Impartial Law and Human Rights Study Institute. He is also an expert of human rights politics and legal politics, regional conflict studies, especially for Papua cases. In this position, he was the investigator at KPPHAM East Timor (1999), KPPHAM Tanjung Priok (2000), KPPHAM Abepura (2000), KPPHAM Wasior (2003) until he became the chair of the Follow-up Team Investigating Human Rights Violations (2017 – 2022) and the Presidential Monitoring Team member of the Victims’ Recovery of Human Rights Violations (2023).

R Alpha Amirrachman earns his Ph.D of Anthropology of Education from the Institute for Social Science Research, Universiteit van Amsterdam (2008 – 2012), Master of Philosophy from Faculty of Education and Social Work, School of Policy and Practice, University of Sydney (2002 – 2004) and Banchelor of English Education from University Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka (1995 – 1999).

Arip Muttaqien is an experienced economist, public policy specialist, and interdisciplinary expert with over 15 years of professional expertise in research, consultancy, or academia. Currently serving as a lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia, he focuses on innovative research areas, among them, microsimulation, international development, SDGs, sustainable finance, climate financing, digital transformation, regional economic integration, and monitoring and evaluation.
Arip holds a PhD in Economics from UNU-MERIT/Maastricht University (the Netherlands), where he was awarded the prestigious Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) scholarship from the Ministry of Finance. He also earned a dual MSc in Public Policy and Human Development from the same institution and scholarshiip. Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) in France, supported by the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship.
Beyond academia, Arip has collaborated with leading international organizations and donors, such as UNDP, UNESCO, USAID, ASEAN, AusAid, and the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office. Before, he worked at the ASEAN Secretariat that overseeing the progress of regional economic integration in Southeast Asia where he conducted in-depth economic analysis across 20+ sectors, over 2,400 activities, and over 370 KPIs. Among them, macroeconomic, trade, investment, financial integration, digital economy, sustainability, climate change, infrastructure, transport, MSMEs, and many more.

Rizal is a development economist with hands-on experience in generating evidence to support policy reforms and policymaking. I hold a PhD in Economics with expertise in public policy and impact evaluation work using randomized experiments (RCTs, A/B testing, and lab in the field experiment) and quasi-experimental evaluation.
Over the past decade he has consistently taken on increasingly impactful roles for both Government think-tanks and International NGO. Rizal led right-fit research and rigorous evaluation studies in Indonesia, Afghanistan, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. Leading studies in the Asia Pacific, his works covered various themes in development: Social protection, Health Nutrition, Multidimensional Poverty, Cash transfers, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and Education.
Rizal has published in International peer-reviewed journals in the area of Economics, Health, and Development and was part of the team evaluating the largest randomized impact evaluations cash transfer in the world in Indonesia from 2013-2016. His current interest lies in topics at the intersection of behavioural, economics, and artificial intelligence. In the past he served as Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit within the National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Reduction Secretariat, a policy think tank under the office of the Vice President, Republic of Indonesia.

Visna has more than 15 years’ experience in working at the issue of project management, economic and social development, women peace and security (WPS), human right and security, social entrepreneurship, poverty and inequality, and peace building issues.
Since 2013, she actively develops several development programs based on research that influenced to grass root. She also succussed in developing the Preventing Violent Extremism Program for five-year plan. This program itself was based on the request of the Government of Indonesia, through The Ministry of National Development Planning, The Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Kemenkopolhukam) and Village Ministry.
In 2017, she became one of Indonesia’s leadership fellows under the US Department of State’s Premier Professional Exchange Program (IVLP) in Washington DC; and become representative member in South East Asia Network—CSO (SEAN CSO) on CVE led by Deakin University. Her project became one of 60 selected projects from more than 900 applications. This project presented in the prestigious event of Paris Peace Forum 2018, attended by President of France, Emmanuel Macron. She has also appointed by Google Indonesia as one of CAPPI’s working group member (a working group under GIFCT who works to build a mechanism and policy recommendation in tackling violent extremism content in internet). As an author of several policy papers, research results, books, and modules, Visna is also one of respective author of ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation Working Paper Serries.
